Hiring event to be preceded by one day of employment readiness training
(AURORA) – In April, several sponsoring organizations are joining forces to produce a Military and Veterans Employment Expo (MVEE) at the Community College of Aurora. All Active Duty, National Guard and Reserve Members, Veterans and their spouses are urged to attend.
The MVEE will take place at the Community College of Aurora, 16000 East Centretech Way, Aurora, Colorado 80011. The MVEE is structured to present classroom learning and job search skills on April 7, capped off with one of the biggest hiring events in Aurora on April 14, 2017.
April 7 – 9 a.m. – 3 p.m. Classes
Effective Resume Concepts, Optimize Social Media, Federal Government Guide & How to work a job fair
For the first day, active duty servicemembers, Guard and Reservists, Veterans, and their spouses will attend employment readiness classes to prepare them for today’s competitive marketplace. Some are “core classes,” offering skill building in how to write a job resume and translate military personnel duties to civilian speak, how to network with social media, how to be successful in a job interview and how to work a job fair.
April 14 – 9 a.m. – 3 p.m. Meet with Employers
A hiring event will be offered to active duty servicemembers, Guard and Reservists, Veterans, and their spouses. Representatives from several companies will be participating, ALL with job openings. More than 1500 job opportunities will be available! Participants who attended the employment readiness classes on April 7, will be admitted to the hiring event at 9 a.m., and at 10 a.m., all eligible participants will gain admittance.
“It’s good business to hire Veterans and servicemembers as the military workforce is a valuable source for finding highly qualified employees. Their military background provides them with skills in leadership, teamwork and they can perform under pressure. VA is committed to hiring Veterans, servicemembers in the Guard or Reserves, as well as their spouses and widows. Over half of Denver VARO employees have served,” stated Chris Holly, Acting Director, Denver VA Regional Office.
New This Year: Suit Up! Business Suit Campaign for Job Seeking Veterans
Veterans who attend this event are welcome to come to the classroom sessions on April 7, and receive a new or gently used suit (men and women) to get them suited up for Employer Day on April 14!
The Denver VARO and several partner organizations such as the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs (VA), Employer Support of the Guard and Reserve (ESGR), the Arapahoe\Douglas Works Workforce Center and the City of Aurora have put together a kind of military-to-private business pipeline, helping them recognize how the skills they gained in any of the branches of service can be readily applied in a wide range of civilian careers. A special thanks goes to Community College of Aurora for hosting the event.
Individuals are urged to attend both days to make the most of the myriad opportunities. Before attending, however, they should first register by visiting:
There will be an opportunity for media to attend the event on both days. For further information and to RSVP, media representatives must contact Rebecca Sawyer-Smith, Department of Veterans Affairs, at (303) 914-5984 (cell 720-936-7599).
